Penn State Supports Gay Community
About 50 people gathered outside of the Katz Building last night to protest Ken Star’s support of California’s Proposition 8, which changed the state’s constitution to invalidate and disallow gay marriage. You can find the full article at the Collegian.
This isn’t the only news related to the LGBTA community that has come out of Happy Valley recently. The Collegian reported yesterday that Michael Hong, a senior here, is trying to bring back the Delta Lambda Phi fratarnity. Delta Lambda Phi proclaims that it was “founded by gay men for all men.”
Says Hong, “I want this fraternity not just to represent a brotherhood. I want it to stand for a change socially.”
These are two really encouraging stories. It’s good to see people at Penn State supporting things that aren’t always popular in Central PA.

To paraphrase Mark Twain: The reports of higher education’s death have been an exaggeration. American universities produce more research and relevant knowledge for the world at large than any other institutions I know of. Tuition may be too damn high, but over the long-run, undergraduate degrees are definitely worth the cost. But Penn State could be so much more. It used to be, I think.
