Sanderson Hire Already Pays Dividends

taylorDavid Taylor, All-American wrestler from Ohio, is coming to Penn State. After committing to Iowa State, Cael Sanderson’s old stomping grounds, Taylor followed the famous coach to his new home in Happy Valley.

“We’re very pleased to welcome David to Penn State,” Sanderson said. “He is an outstanding young man from an outstanding family and his addition to our program is great news for every Penn State wrestling fan. David is a special talent whose character will allow him to excel at the collegiate level and it is an honor to have him join our program.”

Taylor can wrestle in any weight group from 149 to 165 pounds. In high school, he went 180-2, won four state titles and the Walsh Ironman Tournament four times, in addition to numerous other tournaments and awards.

The nation’s top wrestling recruit joins an increasingly awesome class that includes Blair Academy’s Edward Ruth, a national prep champion; and Luke Macchiaroli, a three-time state champion from Arizona.

Taylor had this to say about Coach Sanderson:

“I have known him since I was eight years old, but I really didn’t know who he was at that time,” Taylor said after arriving in State College on Tuesday afternoon. “He then became my idol growing up. I would see him and say, ‘Hi,’ but I didn’t think he remembered me. Once I got older, I got back in contact with him. I followed him to Iowa State, and I’m following him to Penn State.”

Welcome to campus Mr. Taylor. You have a bright future ahead of you.

Senior Writes Final Column

Senior columns, with all their melodrama and platitudes, usually leave me eye-rolling and shaking my head with a vigor usually reserved for study abroad blog posts. But, as I graduate a week from today, I figured I should give it a go myself. Rather than discuss the origins of Onward State like Evan,  I’d just like to briefly thank a few individuals who have defined my Penn State experience.
