Need An Internship? Go To Israel!

Having trouble finding an internship in your local area? Many would suggest searching in other big cities, like New York, Chicago, or DC. Others, such as a recent Haaretz.com article, talk about the growing internship/job market overseas.

“In the U.S., most internships are unpaid and may involve traveling, be it to Los Angeles, New York or Washington D.C.,” said Marcia Harris, who until recently headed the career center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. “For roughly the same cost and effort, Jewish graduates can come to Israel while getting professional experience,” she added.

But what about non-Jewish students? Jack Rayman, director of career services at Penn State, was told that Israeli internships are not necessarily Jewish-exclusive.

“And I asked whether there are opportunities here for non-Jewish students. I was assured that there were, and I’ve talked to non-Jewish students here who are on programs,” he added

The increasing amount of internships offered internationally that are supported by large American universities is not surprising. Penn State seems to be very eager to expand its connections overseas, especially with the recent advent of the School of International Affairs.

Anyone have any international internship experience? We would love to hear your story.
