Victory for the Kleercut campaign!
Eco-Action and Greenpeace triumphed yesterday after a weary battle with Kimberly-Clark, when the overlords of the paper products industry agreed to Greenpeace’s demands to protect the ancient Boreal Forest.
Recap: Kimberly-Clark manufactures the Kleenex, Scott, and Cottonelle brands. Also, they had this bad habit of chopping down ancient forests to create their products. Penn State bought these products, so Eco-Action rallied hard to convince the university to switch their supplier.
This Penn State activism (which is flourishing, Graham) helped to persuade Kimberly-Clark to improve its habits and ended the Kleercut campaign in a smashing success.
Before the end of 2011, Kimberly-Clark will stop purchasing any tree fiber from the Boreal Forest not certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. (Progress takes time.) Also, the new “treaty” between Greenpeace and Kimberly-Clark reinforces laws pertaining to recycled content, illegal lumber sources, and designated conservation areas.
In some faraway place, Treebeard, Gaia, and Bob Ross are drinking a toast to their beloved trees.

Fundraiser Benefits Indian Orphans
Interested in food, music, and a good cause? Come to the HOINA Spaghetti Dinner tomorrow evening to satisfy these three interests and more.
The price of $7 includes dinner, dessert, and live instrumental music, ranging from a viola quartet to traditional Indian kirtans.
Homes of the Indian Nation (HOINA) is a nonprofit organization which runs an orphanage and school in Andhra Pradesh, India. All proceeds from the fundraiser will directly benefit the orphans themselves.
