College Is Worth It, But It Doesn’t Matter Where You Go
An article in the New York Times blog Economix asserts that it isn’t all that important where you went to school but simply that you got a college degree. The article had a pretty interesting quote relating a degree from Penn State vs. the University of Pennsylvania:
It tracked top high-school students through their 30s and found that their alma maters had little impact on their earnings. Students who got into both, say, the University of Pennsylvania and Penn State made roughly the same amount of money, regardless of which they chose.
Despite this article, I’m glad I opted to go to an out of state school. UVA and Virginia Tech have got nothing close to what we have here at Penn State. Besides, I wouldn’t be able to write for Onward State or watch world-class football with 107,000 of my fellow Penn Staters. How can you beat that?

AT&T is sponsoring a pretty cool competition in which entrants can win $10,000 cash in scholarship money for creating a mobile device application. Teams of up to four people can enter a custom-built application for the purpose of e-learning. The rules state that the “innovating e-learning mobile app” should be functional across multiple platforms. Submissions are due by September 15, 2010 and so far there are only ten teams signed up.
