The police filed charges today against Alpha Tau Omega; Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI); John Townsend, a member of FIJI; and a student, Jennifer Clifford, after the investigation of the events that led to the death of Joe Dado.

All four were charged with violations of the Pennsylvania Crimes Code, Title 18, Section 6310.1, selling or furnishing liquor or malt or brewed beverages to minors, and of the Pennsylvania Liquor Code, Title 47, section 4-493 unlawful acts relative to liquor, malt and brewed beverage and licensees for furnishing alcohol.

Summons have been sent to those charged, and a hearing date is to be decided. In addition to criminal charges, the accused also face the possibility of Judicial Affairs repercussions if it can be determined that University policy has been violated.

Having completed the investigation, police have announced that alcohol played a major role in the tragic death of Joe Dado.
