Drinking Holidays Derail “Last Call” Name

Alapalooza, anyone?

The reasoning behind the vetoing of this year’s spring festival’s name “Last Call” is apparently due to its alcohol implications. And this year, with more and more days being made “holidays” for the purpose of drinking, the name simply can’t stand. A warning has even been made to the UPUA, stating that the festival’s date, which is currently set for the last day of classes, will be rescinded by the university if the name is not changed, according to a recent UPUA letter from the program’s director, Mike Wallace.

Thus it was deemed necessary to veto the program’s name and subsequently adopt 5 alternative names in which the student body would be eligible to vote on. This hopefully would grant more oversight into the program by the student body, while also creating as much excitement and publicity for the event as possible. Certainly, the name “Last Call” is a little ambiguous, but enough to warrant a warning to the UPUA? Not really. It’s the university’s increased sensitivity to any event that may involve alcohol.  Special thanks to such reckless ideas as Cinco De State, as well as State Patty’s recent fiasco, and Penn State’s overly alcoholic nature in general, for the stick up the administrators’ asses.

Thus, we now have 5 less imaginative names for the spring festival, none of which match up to “Last Call,” which seemed to have the right ring to it because the event will take place on the last day of classes. The name could be made to mirror the artist that the UPUA gets for the event.

And apparently, negotiations are still underway with a number of mainstream artists for the spring festival. No word yet on who’s been talked to, as negotiations have been made private due to the fragile nature of the entertainment negotiating process. There’s $45,000 for the event’s artists now. I’d prefer someone with more than one hit song…How much would it cost to bail out Lil’ Wayne for the day?

What are your guesses/hopes for who could be this years spring festival headlining artist? Hopes for who won’t be?
