For those of you who have been on campus this summer, you've probably heard that power in the HUB failed last Thursday, and continued to be less than reliable through Monday. For those of you who have not, rest assured that it should be taken care of long before you move back in.

Last Monday, the Daily Collegian’s editorial cartoon seemed a bit more…familiar than usual. The reason for this was the addition of cartoonist Alex Donahue, a 5-year Penn State architecture student. Usually, the Daily Collegian’s political cartoons are from various publications and feature national or global issues. The typical student response was to be thankful we don’t live near oil deposits and go on with our day. Local cartoons could change that.

The Penn State women's volleyball team earned many accolades in the past year for winning a third-consecutive national championship. The team, and individuals like Megan Hodge, received numerous awards and acknowledgements. One such recognition, however, is often overlooked.
Congress honors various sporting teams and individuals with congratulatory resolutions. The women's volleyball team was just one of many subjects of this formal act of congress. Normally, these bills are drafted and approved unanimously. Until recently, when Rep. Jason Chaffetz of Utah spoke out against the practice.

For 75 years, Kodachrome has been the film of choice for thousands of film photographers around the world. It has been used to take some of the most iconic images of our time. Last year, Kodak, the maker of the film, announced that it would be ceasing production of the most well known film type of all time (it's even got a Paul Simon song about it), it saddened a photographer who had been using the product for over 35 years.

Last week Old Main was subject to several acts of vandalism. According to Penn State police logs between Tuesday nigh and Wednesday morning, a front step on the lawn side of the building was damaged, as was a park bench on the southeast corner of the Old Main lawn. However, perhaps most disturbing of all was the graffiti on the sundial in front of the building.

The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) voted on Friday to move three of its state championship sites to Penn State. The sports being included in this move are baseball, softball and boys volleyball. This comes after the PIAA had moved the boys basketball championship from the GIANT Center in Hershey to the Bryce Jordan Center in 2007.
