IFC Trains Greeks on New Social Policy

While everyone else has been enjoying a nice, simple syllabus week during the first week back at Penn State, the Interfraternity Council has been busy working to get Greek men trained on the new IFC Social Policy. IFC VP for Risk Management, Tom Piarulli, is holding training sessions every evening this week to certify Greek men for becoming Greek Event Monitors for their social functions. This new system replaces the previous one which made security guards mandatory at social functions. The new IFC Social Policy gives the accountability back to the chapter members to maintain a safe and organized environment for all social events.

Basically, each chapter is responsible for providing up to eight Greek Event Monitors for their social events. The GEMs may be members of their own chapter. In order to be a certified GEM, one must complete the training given by the IFC. The training, essentially, reviews the entire social policy thus making every GEM fully aware of what is expected of their chapters during social events. The new social policy was voted into effect at this past Sunday’s Presidents’ Council meeting by a unanimous vote.
