Superhero G-Span Oversees All College Sports

Earlier this year, there was talk of Penn State President Graham Spanier taking over the post of NCAA President after the death of Myles Brand. G-Span did not want the job, however, and Mark Emmert was eventually elected to the position.

But in his quest to keep all college citizens safe, it was announced on Tuesday that Spanier has been selected to head the Bowl Championship Series Presidential Oversight Committee. This enhances his already incredible resume which includes being the former chair of the NCAA Division I Board of Directors and the Big Ten Presidents and Chancellors.

G-Span has been on the BCS board since its inception in 1998. The Oversight Committee approves decisions regarding all BCS issues (including policy, format, revenue distribution and contractual obligations) which are made by the conference commissioners and Notre Dame athletic director and the Athletic Directors Advisory Group and affects all 120 Football Bowl Subdivison (FBS) teams. Spanier was grateful for the honor, saying:

I am honored by my presidential colleagues to be selected to lead the governance activities of one of the great modern traditions in intercollegiate athletics. The BCS will endeavor to serve the best interests of our universities, our student athletes and the many alumni and fans who follow collegiate football.

We can only hope Spanier helps set the BCS straight. Playoff system anyone?
