Men’s Soccer Starts 2-0
The men’s soccer team went 2-0 and won the Wolstein Classic in Columbus, Ohio this weekend to start the season on a strong note.
Penn State’s first opponent was Buffalo. Led by junior Corey Hertzog’s two goals and senior Matheus Braga’s three assists, the Nittany Lions rolled to a 5-0 victory. The other goal-scorers were senior Drew Cost, sophomore Rafael Faria, and sophomore John Gallagher.
The Nittany Lions had a harder time finding the back of the net in their second game of the season against the College of Charleston. Despite a dominating performance and a 22-5 shooting edge, Penn State was kept off of the scoreboard until the 88th minute. Hertzog scored his third goal of the season on assists from Cost and Braga to lead the Nittany Lions to a 1-0 win.
Penn State’s 2-0 start is their first since 2000. They will look to build on their early season success next weekend in the annual Penn State Classic.
