State Theatre Suddenly Loses Its Leader
Mike Negra, the executive director of the State Theatre, declared on Tuesday that he will step down. His last day as the leader of the theatre will be September 21. No reasons have thus far been given for the sudden announcement. The board of directors will meet to discuss plans for the future, including naming Negra’s replacement.
Negra has been involved with the State Theatre, at 130 W. College Ave., for many years. He helped to reopen the theatre after it closed in 2001. Negra has been the executive director since the reopening in 2006. The State Theatre has featured live musical acts, independent movies, and theatre performances from both local and national groups.
Negra helped with the theatre as a way of contributing to the community, giving many local artists the opportunity to perform there. Before being the State Theatre’s executive director, Negra owned Mike’s Movies and Music for 20 years. Negra hasn’t said what his future plans are, besides relaxing at home with his family. There is no word yet on how Negra’s resignation will affect the operations of the State Theatre.
