Men’s Soccer Gets High in Colorado

The Penn State men’s soccer team faced a tough test last weekend. They faced a short practice week, a long trip to Colorado, two matches at high altitude and two challenging road atmospheres. The Nittany Lions were able to overcome these obstacles and win both games on their brutal road trip.

Penn State first played Air Force on Friday. Unitimidated by the altitude and atmosphere, the Nittany Lions struck first in the 23rd minute. Junior Matheus Braga hit a free kick that eventually found the head of junior Mark Fetrow, who put the Nittany Lions up 1-0. Coach Bob Warming had been stressing free kick taking this week, and it seems to have payed off for Penn State. Junior Corey Hertzog scored his sixth goal of the year in the second half and Penn State went on to win 2-0.

Penn State played Denver on Sunday to conclude their road trip. Hertzog got his seventh goal of the year to begin the scoring in the 24th minute. After halftime, Braga, sophomore Rafael Faria and junior Mackenzie Arment all scored to give the Nittany Lions a dominating 4-0 victory. With the win, Penn State is 4-0 on the road this season, an impressive stat considering they had only four victories away from home in the past four years combined (that’s a lot of fours).

Penn State, now 5-1 overall, will hope to improve on their three game winning streak. They begin Big 10 play this week with a game against Indiana.

Upcoming schedule:

Friday: vs. Indiana, 7:30 p.m.
