Penn State Professors Help Write Android Report
A team of researchers from Duke, Intel, and Penn State used a widget called “TaintDroid” to monitor what data 35 of the most popular Android applications send out unbeknownst to the user, according to an article about Android from the BBC.
The data transmitted by the applications was found to include everything from the phone’s location to its number and audio information.
Penn State professors William Enck and Patrick McDaniel contributed to the research paper. Enck is a doctoral candidate in Computer Science and Engineering, and is advised by McDaniel, who is the co-director of the Systems and Internet Infrastructure Security Laboratory.
