Violence Mars Homecoming Weekend

State College, voted one of the safest towns in the country, will have trouble holding on to that title after two separate stabbings occurred during Penn State’s Homecoming festivities this weekend.

The first took place on Saturday morning in front of the Knights of Columbus, where three men were Life-Flighted with serious injuries after a social at the club turned into a knife fight.

The second incident occurred early Sunday morning outside of 797 Lounge on the corner of Burrowes St. and College Ave. Over a dozen people were reported to have started a fight in the bar, which then moved to the street, where two men received stab wounds.

Police said that investigations are ongoing into the causes of the stabbings.  University Park Undergraduate Association President Christian Ragland commented on the incidents Sunday on his Facebook page:

As I’m slowly finding out what dangerous things happened this weekend at some off-campus parties, I am truly disgusted from what I am hearing so far. Today I’m going to be contacting various leaders to see what proactive steps we need to take to make sure this does not happen again. This is unnacceptable, but please know as Penn State Student Body President, this will be dealt with.
