Women’s Volleyball Wins Two in Michigan

The Penn State women’s volleyball team continued their recent good form with two wins in the state of Michigan, with impressive performances against Michigan on Friday and Michigan State on Saturday.

Penn State faced a tough test on Friday against 15th-ranked Michigan. The Nittany Lions came out firing, however, and easily took set one. After a set two comeback win, Penn State won set three, and the match, 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-21). Freshman Katie Slay had the best match of her college career, totaling seven kills and nine blocks. Senior Blair Brown led the team with ten kills.

On Saturday, Michigan State took Penn State to four sets. After splitting the first two, the Nittany Lions cruised through sets three and four to take the match, 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-16, 25-19). Brown led the team once again with 18 kills. The freshmen trio of Slay, Deja McClendon, and Ariel Scott all had double-digit kill totals. Despite losing a set, this was another quality road win for the Nittany Lions.

With the two victories, Penn State improves to 21-4 overall and 11-3 in the Big Ten. Thanks to some help from our friends at Northwestern and their victory over Illinois, winning out will give the Nittany Lions the Big Ten title. Penn State gets a shot at Illinois this week as part of a four-game home stretch.

Upcoming schedule:

Friday: vs. Wisconsin, 7 p.m.
Saturday: vs. Illinois, 6 p.m.
