Late last week, at the Penn State Board of Trustees meeting held in the Nittany Lion Inn, Crawford Achitects of Kansas City, MO and Bohlin Cywinski Jackson of Wilkes-Barre, PA were announced as the architects of the new 5,000-6,000 seat hockey arena that will house Penn State’s Division I team, made possible by an $88 million donation by Terry Pegula.

The 200,000 square-foot arena will hold two sheets of ice and will be used for Penn State games as well as youth and community programs and hopefully AHL and NHL exhibition games in the future.

Crawford has experience in the hockey arena field, as he built Notre Dame’s Joyce Center and helped with the building of both the Buffalo Sabres’ and Washington Capitals’ homes. Bohlin Cywinski Jackson has dealt with Penn State before, helping with the plans to build the new Biobehavioral Health Building at the base of the HUB lawn.

It’s a shame that Ted Mosby won’t be the architect behind the arena, though.
