Celebrate 100 Years of Social Intercourse

100 years ago, before the time of social media, and before Cosmopolitan magazine, there was the Penn State Cosmopolitan Club. The students founded it in 1910 as a way to “cultivate social intercourse between students of different nationalities and thereby foster the spirit of universal brotherhood.” Today, students can partake in International Education Week from Nov. 15-19 to bolster up those same feelings from yesteryear. And you don’t even have to pay dues.

The purpose of the week is to celebrate the benefits of international education and international exchanges worldwide. The effort is an opportunity for Americans to enter a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to exchange experiences in the United States.

Many different events have been created to inspire people to participate. The full list of events can be found here.

Some of the events to check out are the keynote speaker of Khanjan Mehta on Monday, the International Opportunities Fair on Tuesday, the Cultural Lunch: Venezuela on Wednesday, the Noontime Performance of State College Area Irish Musicians on Thursday, and the piano recital of Enrico Elisi on Friday.
