Cross Country Finishes Year at Nationals

Both the men’s and women’s cross country teams had solid days Monday running at the  NCAA Cross Country Championships.

For the first time since 1994, both the Penn State men’s and women’s team made it to the national meet.

The women finished 26th overall, with the men placing 30th.  While both races only had 31 teams, it is important to remember that it is necessary to qualify to make the meet, so it includes only the top teams.

The men were once again led by their junior duo of Kyle Dawson and Vince McNally.  Dawson finished strong with a 52nd place showing, while McNally ran well, placing 77th.

The rest of the top 5 for the men finished in a solid pack as they placed 171st, 179th, and 180th respectfully for the Lions.

Brooklyne Ridder paced the womens squad with a solid 82nd place showing.  Catlin Lane also placed in the top 100 for the Lady Lions with a 96th place finish.  Kara Millhouse, Natalie Bower and Maura Ryan rounded out the top 5 for Penn State.

This finishes up a strong year for Penn State.  They will have the majority of their top runners returning next year and hope to build on this season’s success.
