Streetlight Manifesto at the HUB: Sober/High

This series is influenced by (or lovingly ripped off from) NYU Local’s Drunk/Sober/High feature. We decided to start off with two just states of mind: sober and high.

Below you’ll read the opinions of two writers who took it upon themselves to have a great night with differing ideals at SPA’s Streetlight Manifesto show.

By the time I got to the show…
Sober: I was sick, tired, and ready to fucking rock. As a die-hard Streetlight fan who’d never seen them live, I’d been circling “February the 7th” in my calendar since the concert was announced, and I was not going to let this URTI ruin my night.
High: I felt like I could take a nap. I mean, I had seen Streetlight before and wasn’t wowed by them the first time. Last time I saw them was at Warped Tour and we smoked a J in the skanking pit. Hoping for a repeat…

The opening band made me feel like…
Sober: Throwing something at them. No offense to Go Go Gadjet, but they were awful. Actually, I take that back. Offense to Go Go Gadjet, because they offended me. It wasn’t until 3/4 of their set was over when they realized playing rock and ska covers would appeal to this crowd more than shitty pop ones. So fuck them for not knowing their audience. And for sucking.
High:I was in the wrong place. I had no idea Go Go Gadget was so terrible until I listened to them with sober-ish ears (aka not drunk). I’ve only ever seen them at Cafe, and without a pitcher in my hand and a bitch on each arm they are absolutely worthless.

I couldn’t wait for…
Sober: Streetlight to come out. I mean, I wasn’t the exception, everyone hated Go Go Gadjet. They threw glow sticks into the crowd, and people threw them right back. The best part of their set was watching them try and dodge flying glow sticks coming at their heads.
High: Someone to hit the lead singer of Gadget in the face. I’m gonna be honest, for a stoner at a concert, flying glowsticks are gonna win over attention any day.

If I could have brought anything with me, I would have brought…
Sober: A bottle of Gatorade. Specifically: Riptide Rush. Jumping around for an hour and half is pretty goddamn draining, and I was sweating my balls off in there.
High: A blunt to pass around the skank pit so I could feel the music. Okay, make that two.

By the time the concert ended…
Sober: I was singing Streetlight songs to myself on the way out. Specifically, one line from We Are The Few: “this has been the best night of my life.” Then on the way out, I got a chick’s number by reciting the rhyme from the Lucky Charms commercial. Hearts, starts, horseshoes, clovers and blue moons. Pots of gold and rainbows, and me red balloons. Yeah, it was a good night.
High: I was ready to blaze again. While Sober got some girl’s phone number by singing, I got a few stares of those who recognized the odor lingering on my jacket. I was never a big Streetlight fan, but enjoyed the music. Even if I enjoyed Twitter more…

And the winner is…

From the sounds of it, Sober wins the night with both a phone number and a memorable evening! High, on the other hand, wandered away from the HUB at some point and thinks he had a good time.
