In a battle of the Big Ten’s best, the #23 Lady Lions fell to the visiting #11 Michigan State Spartans, 60-49. Sophomore forward Mia Nickson led the team with 22 points on 6-12 shooting, but was one of just two Lady Lions in double figures, along with star freshman Maggie Lucas (15 points).

The Lady Lions, who lead the country in 3-point field goal percentage at 44.6%, were held to just three field goals on 11 shots from beyond the arc. Penn State’s 49 points was 31 points below their season average, a Big Ten-leading 80.4 points per game, and was their lowest scoring output of the season.

Last night’s game marked the first time a ranked Lady Lion team hosted a ranked opponent since 2005 (a victory over #10 Minnesota by #22 Penn State). With the loss, Penn State now sits at 9-3 and falls to 2nd in the Big Ten, a half-game behind Michigan State. The Lady Lions travel to Bloomington on Sunday to take on Indiana at 12:30 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on the Big Ten Network.
