Misfits to Horrify the Arena Bar and Grill

This Saturday, legendary horror-punk band The Misfits will perform at the Arena Bar and Grill on Martin Street, with doors opening at 7 p.m. and the concert starting at eight. The band was originally scheduled to play at Mezzanine, but the venue was changed and now the show is 21 and over only. Anyone under 21 who purchased tickets needs to see Mezzanine for a refund, according to the Arena’s website.

Tickets are $25 in advance at ticketweb.com, the Arena, or Mezzanine. It sounds pricey, but it’s worth it if you spent any point of your youth listening to punk. Or you could just do it to piss your parents off.

If you aren’t familiar with the Misfits, be sure to boost your music knowledge and check out the band that created its own musical genre. The style of horror-punk fuses the anger and speed of punk music with the darkness and misery of horror movies. The Misfits pioneered this genre, but current musicians like A.F.I. and Aiden have kept the music alive.

The Misfits formed in the seventies and released several albums in the eighties. “Walk Among Us” is by far the best album from the original line-up. Despite several changes in musicians, the Misfits reunited in 1995 and have been scaring fans with their horror-punk across the country ever since.

If you need something to get the feel of the Misfits, check out their 1997 release “American Psycho” and listen to “Walk Among Us” and “Speak of the Devil.” If you like what you hear, the concert will definitely be a memorable look at what punk music really used to sound like.
