Penn State-Indiana Preview

Last week, Penn State built on a win over Temple with a 34-6 victory over Eastern Michigan. The Nittany Lions clicked both offensively and defensively, but Michael Mauti and D’Anton Lynn went out with injuries. At 3-1, Penn State now enters Big Ten play on the road against Indiana (1-3).

Team: Indiana Hoosiers
Conference: Big Ten
Head Coach: Kevin Wilson (1-3 record; first season)
Series History: Penn State leads 14-0
Players to look for: QB Edward Wright-Baker; RB Matt Perez; LB Jeff Thomas
Prediction: Penn State wins 35-10

To put it plainly, Indiana is not a very good team and will probably finish last in the Big Ten this year. That being said, the Hoosiers do have some good players that the Nittany Lions will have to look out for.

Wright-Baker has thrown for 925 yards and four touchdowns, helping Indiana to 413.8 yards per game. The Hoosiers also feature two running backs, Perez and D’Angelo Roberts, who each have over 40 carries. Indiana has had little trouble scoring this year at 27.5 points per game, but the Hoosiers have given up nearly the same amount defensively.

Indiana’s struggles defensively have not come against very good teams, either. Ball State, Virginia, South Carolina State and North Texas all scored over 20 points against the Hoosiers this season.

Penn State should have little trouble scoring this Saturday. Silas Redd looks primed to have a good game against a defense giving up nearly 200 yards per game on the ground. Plus, a strong running game should help the passing game regardless of who is playing quarterback.

Look for the Nittany Lions to struggle early on the road. However, Penn State will settle in and score plenty of points as the game wears on. If the Penn State defense continues to play well, the Nittany Lions will roll to an easy 35-10 victory.
