Blackout with Breathe Carolina

Emo-electro scenesters, Breathe Carolina (@BreatheBand), will be bringing their dancey-thrash ensemble to Alumni Hall tonight for the nostalgic pleasure of high school Myspace whores and students who still have ecstasy left from Avicii.

The Rise/Fearless Records pop duo will take the stage at 10 pm as part of SPA’s attempt to give those not out canning something to do.

Blending electronic dance and blood curdling screamo, Breathe Carolina creates a unique experience for listeners. The typical techno beats are chopped and screwed into new bass-hybrid breakdowns that light up mosh pits with unique rave vibes. Glowsticks and windmill kicks join in belligerent unison as rumbling cut time lights up the audience.

Screamer and keytar rocker (yeah, I said keytar), Kyle Even provides the intensity and in your face flavor while vocalist David Schmitt offers glass piercing high notes and the swagger of an MC. Together they give Breathe Carolina the signature stage presence of an out of control frat party.

Their dizzying breed of cheesy 80’s synth-pop and aggressive post-hardcore grew from a few plays on a Colorado Myspace page into appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the Winter X Games and most recently a headlining spot on Rockstar’s 2011 Scream It Like You Mean It tour with alt-scene heavy hitters like Chiodos, I See Stars and The Color Morale.

Now coming fresh off the summer release of their highly anticipated third album, Hell Is What You Make It, Breathe Carolina is taking their hip-shakin’, fist throwin’ fiercely electric concoction from the underground scene to the Billboard Hot 100 charts. The video for their lead single, Blackout, chronicles one of those crazy nights of vague memories and poor decisions that Penn State party animals have been praised for. Check it out below and get ready to “go a little harder” tonight with the SPA crew and the less wussy side of the electronic dance genre.
