Penn State Downs Nebraska in TIMpressive Fashion

It has been a trying three weeks for the Penn State basketball team, but they put an end to a five game losing streak Saturday in an impressive fashion. In front of a large crowd in attendance for the Coaches vs. Cancer fundraiser, Penn State (11-15, 3-10) took an early lead and never looked back, knocking off Nebraska 67-51.

Penn State dominated Nebraska in every facet of the game, out rebounding the Cornhuskers 30-21, while holding them 3% below their season shooting percentage. Penn State shot 86% from the foul line, which has been an area for concern all season (Even Jon Graham made a free throw!).

Tim Frazier had one of the best games of his career, falling only one assist short of a triple-double (and likely would’ve had that assist of Nick Colella didn’t shoot 2-12). Frazier shot 7-9, hit all 8 foul shots, finishing with 23 points along with 10 rebounds.

Cammeron Woodyard and Jermaine Marshall had 14 and 12 points, respectively, including 4 3-pointers from Woodyard. Penn State shot 52% on the day, nearly 14% higher than their season average.

Much to the anguish of every student in attendance, Penn State failed to score the 3 more points required for the free Big Mac promotion for when the team scores 70 or more points. Matt Glover had a chance to get one last shot up at the end of the game, but Pat Chambers made him hold the ball, which resulted in a chorus of boos from the evidently hungry student section. Chambers explained after the game, “I wanted [the students] to get the free Big Macs. I just couldn’t do it to Doc [Sadler, Nebraska head coach].”

Penn State returns to action on Thursday, when they take on Iowa (13-12, 5-7) at the Bryce Jordan Center. The game will air on ESPNU.

Hometown Brewery Releases Beer Honoring Evan Pugh

Penn State’s first president Evan Pugh was born in 1828 at Jordan Bank Farm, three miles south of the city center of Oxford, Pennsylvania, an hour west of Philadelphia in Chester County. One-hundred eighty-nine years later, an Oxford brewery is honoring one of the preeminent champions of “liberal and practical” higher education in the form of a delicious Porter.
