10 Questions With StateCollege.com EIC Ron Musselman

Just three weeks ago, Ron Musselman was named the new editor-in-chief of LazerPro Digital Media Group, our parent company, which also controls StateCollege.com, Altoona.com, and Williamsport.com. He brings to the table 30 years of experience in the newspaper industry, most recently working for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette as its State College writer. We are excited to have Ron on the team and look forward to working with him more in the future. We asked him some questions on his new job and other subjects. Here are his answers:

Onward State: What are you most looking forward to about working with the LazerPro team?

Ron Musselman: I am looking forward to making StateCollege.com the website to visit for Penn State and State College news, plus I plan to beef up our football coverage.

OS: What role do you see digital media playing at Penn State in the future?

RM: Digital media has been been big for a few years now. It is the way to break news now, which is why newspapers are struggling and why I made the move to StateCollege.com after 30 pretty good years in the newspaper industry.

OS: What can you take from you prior experience at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that applies most to your new position?

RM: Well, certainly my knowledge of Penn State football and other news, the Sandusky scandal,. etc., all of which I covered as the Post-Gazette’s State College-based writer since 2009.

OS: If you were on death row and had to choose your final meal, what would it be?

RM: Steak and lobster.

OS: What is the best vacation or trip that you’ve ever been on?

RM: A one-week cruise of the Caribbean for my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary.

OS: If you could have lunch with one historical figure or celebrity, living or dead, who would that be and what would you want to talk him or her about?

RM: Abraham Lincoln. I find him fascinating, plus I really am a big Civil War buff, so I would have lots of questions for him and would like to pick his mind about the Gettysburg Address.

OS: If you could have one super power, what would it be and why?

RM: It would be nice to be a millionaire for a day just to see how the other half lives.

OS: If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

RM: Bon Jovi, Livin’ on a Prayer. I’m just holding on, ready or not .

OS: What would I find in your refrigerator right now?

RM: Very little.

OS: If you could be any fictional character, either from a book or movie, who would you pick and why?

RM: Kevin Costner in Tin Cup. I would love to shoot par on the back nine of a U.S. Open qualifying event with my 7-iron.

Thanks, Ron!
