Penn State Wrestlers Seek Second Straight NCAA Championship

The Nittany Lion wrestlers, fresh off their second straight Big Ten title, are looking to win a second straight NCAA championship as well starting today in the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Mo.

Each weight class consists of 32 wrestlers; 12 of which are seeded. Penn State has seven seeded wrestlers including three undefeated top seeds in Frank Molinaro, David Taylor, and Ed Ruth.

Nine of ten Penn State starters qualified for this weekend’s tournament; one more than last season. Below are the nine qualifiers and their first round match-ups:

125:  No. 10 Nico Megaludis, freshman, (24-7) vs. Michael Martinez (24-10), Wyoming

133: Frank Martellotti, sophomore, (8-9) vs. No. 1 Jordan Oliver (24-1), Oklahoma State

149: No. 1 Frank Molinaro, senior, (28-0) vs. Christopher Villalonga (25-10), Cornell

157: No. 7 Dylan Alton, redshirt freshman, (24-5) vs. Jake O’Hara (26-13), Columbia

165: No. 1 David Taylor, sophomore, (27-0) vs. Corey Lear (16-9), Bucknell

174: No. 1 Ed Ruth, sophomore, (26-0) vs. James Resnick (18-4), Rider

184: No. 6 Quentin Wright, junior, (26-3) vs. Thomas Ferguson (21-12), North Carolina

197: Morgan McIntosh, freshman, (17-8) vs. Taylor Meeks (19-6), Oregon State

285: No. 6 Cameron Wade, senior, (26-4) vs. Quintas McCorkle (23-12), Clarion
