Grillers Closed Indefintely by Health Department

Grillers, a student favorite for cheap fried food and $1 grilled cheese sandwiches, was abruptly closed yesterday by the State College Department of Ordinance Enforcement & Public Health, leaving some to wonder where they’ll be grabbing some late-night snacks.

That information was revealed by a sign posted on the restaurant’s door, which reads:

March 22, 2012

By Order of the State College Department of Ordinance Enforcement & Public Health, this establishment is closed until further notice.

This isn’t good news for the establishment because this isn’t the first time they have run into trouble with the borough, with the earlier incident resulting in a three page laundry list of code violations. If you’ve ever set foot in Grillers, it’s obvious that the establishment doesn’t boast the cleanest environment, but I’m willing to bet the majority of their target market isn’t in a state of mind to point out the potential health hazards.

As the weekend approaches, the student crowd is sure to be in distress. I caught up with one student hoping to grab some grub on his way home. “It’s so disappointing that Grillers is closed because I go there so frequently,” said Vlad Kemper, a senior Supply Chain & Information Systems major. “The fact that it was closed by the (State College Department of Ordinance Enforcement & Public Health” is kind of unsettling.”

The specifics of the ordinance were not immediately available, but as soon as any further information about Grillers’ closure becomes known, it will be passed along.
