Smeal Tops BusinessWeek Employer Rankings (Again)

For the second straight year, Penn State’s Smeal College of Business took the top spot in the employer portion of BusinessWeek’s Best Undergraduate Business Schools rankings.

In my eyes, the employer rankings mean the most for Penn State given what has occurred here the past few months. As a proud Smeal student, this ranking comes as no surprise to me. Still, the rampant rumors of employers shying away from Penn Staters following The Scandal had me concerned enough to write an open letter to them back in November. I’m thrilled to see that employers have not let the media’s controversial coverage of those unfortunate events affect their views of Smeal graduates.

Smeal moved up three spots in the overall rankings to 22nd after cracking the top 25 for the first time last year. Notre Dame topped the overall ranking for the third straight year followed by Virginia, Penn, Cornell, and Emory.

  • Penn State remained third among Big Ten schools in the Top 25 behind Michigan (7th overall, down one spot from 2011) and Indiana (17th, up one spot) and ahead of Wisconsin (24th, up three).
  • Among Pennsylvania schools, Penn State sits behind Penn (4th overall, same as 2011), Villanova (13th, down six), and Carnegie Mellon (20th, up one).
  • Smeal ranked seventh among public schools, up one from a year ago.

You can find the complete rankings here and a more complete analysis of Smeal’s rankings here.

So, now that it’s official (again) that some of the best and brightest business minds in the country come from Happy Valley, I expect to see a few offer letters sailing into my inbox. Your move, Corporate America!
