Board of Trustees Candidates Profiles: 61-86

With the alumni Board of Trustees campaigns in full swing, Onward State will be releasing short profiles of each candidate. Each profile will include a very brief bio with links to their mission statement, website, Facebook page, and Twitter if available.

Learn about candidates 1-20 here, 21-40 here, and 41-60 here.

A record 27,000 votes have been cast as of Thursday. Penn State graduates have until 9 am on May 3rd to cast their ballot.

Today, in the final installment of our four-part series, we look at candidates 61-86  (in ballot order):

61. Samuel M. Loewner –
Sam Loewner graduated Penn State in 2010 with a degree in Political Science. He followed the University Faculty Senate and the Board of Trustees closely during his time as a student. Loewner currently lives in Northern Virginia and is specialist of online communications solutions at MAXIMUS.

62. Ryan M. Bagwell –

Bagwell graduated from Penn State in 2002 with degrees in Journalism and Music. He wrote for various newspapers in Pennsylvania and Maryland. Presently he’s a senior web programmer at the Hirshorn Zuckerman Design Group, an advertising and marketing agency located near Washington, D.C.

63. John J. Mika –

John Mika is a 1985 graduate in secondary education. A Tower City resident, Mika is a teacher with the federal Bureau of Prisons. While at Penn State, he played on the Schuylkill men’s basketball team and was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity

64. Chris C. Lindsley –
Chris Lindsley graduated in 1987 from the College of Communications with a Bachelor’s degree in journalism. As a student, Lindsley was a sports editor at the Daily Collegian. Currently, he is the Director in Communications Services at the University of Maryland Medical Center, where one of his tasks is to manage the various UMM websites.

65. Edward H. Ridings III –
Ridings graduated in 1971 from the College of Science. During his time at Penn State, he received a varsity letter on the fencing team. Currently, he works as a general surgeon at Vallemont Surgical Services, Inc. in Lewistown, Pa.

66. Thomas E. Kapelewski –
Kapelewski graduated in 1982 from the College of Engineering. While at Penn State, he was in the Alpha Chi Sigma fraternity. He is on the Penn State Industrial and Manufacturing Board of Directors (PSIMES) as well as the Foundation of the Columbia Montour Chamber of Commerce.
Currently, he is the Engineering Manager at KYDEX, LLC in Bloomsburg, Pa.

67. Richard J. Puleo –

Puleo graduated with a Liberal Arts in 1977. During his time at Penn State, he received a varsity letter on the wrestling team. Puleo is the co-founder and chairman of First Cornerstone Bank in King of Prussia. He is currently an attorney practicing out of  Phoenixville, Pa.

68. William F. Oldsey –

Oldsey, who currently resides in Basking Ridge, New Jersey graduated from Penn State in 1976 with a degree in English. Throughout his career, he has been a senior executive for many publishing companies including Macmillan Pearson, and McGraw-Hill. Oldsey is part of a three generation Penn State family including his two sons.

69. Pratima Gatehouse –
Gatehouse graduated from Penn State in 1996 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and returned to Penn State for her masters in Mechanical Engineering, which she obtained in 2010. Gatehouse has served as the President of Penn State Schreyer’s College Alumni Board since September 2003 and has been a member of the Penn State General Alumni Council since September of 2010. She is currently the VP of Product Design at Avalon Partners LLC and previously served as a project manager at Nittany Biodiesel LLC.

70. Kyle B. Heffner –
Heffner graduated in 2008 with a BS in Agribusiness Management. He is currently a personal banker at Wells Fargo Bank. While at Penn State, Heffner held leadership positions within the Strike 3 ALS Organization raising money to support ALS research. This service work continued after graduation where Heffner remained active for Knights of Columbus as well as the Schuykill Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association.

71. Thomas R. Davis –
Davis first graduated from Penn State in 1982 with a degree in biochemistry before earning his Master’s in Food Science in 1985 and a PhD in 1988. A lifelong Pennsylvania native, he currently serves as the Vice President of Research and Development at Sweet Ovations, LLC in Yardley, Pa.

72. Matthew J. Sliwa –
Sliwa graduated in 2001 with a BS in Marketing. He is currently a mortgage loan officer at PNC Mortgage. During his time at Penn State, Sliwa served as president of the East Halls Residence Association and Association of Residence Hall Students as well as several other roles within student government.

73. James P. Brandau –
Brandau graduated in 2003 with a degree in business. He is currently a private wealth advisor for Morgan Stanley and also serves as an At-Large Direct for the Smeal College of Business Alumni Society Board.

74. Shawn D. Manderson –
Manderson graduated from Penn State in 2003 with a BS in Information Sciences and Technology. He is currently a senior IT auditor at FMC after stops at ARAMARK and Ernst & Young LLP. In addition, he is the Chairman and President of Penn State Brandywine Alumni Society.

75. Terry F. Rakowsky –
Rakowsky graduated from Penn State in 1982 with a degree in Biology. He received a doctorate in dental medicine from the University of Pennsylvania in 1986. Currently, Rakowsky is a dentist at Terry F. Rakowsky DMD and at Signature Dental Smiles. He is also Central Bucks West’s Girl’s Basketball Coach.

76. Jack F. Beiter – Jack Beiter, a Veteran of WWII Army of Occupation in Japan, received the GI Bill and worked personally earning his degree in Business Education in 1952. Jack has been inducted into Edwin Sparks Circle, Golden Lion, Atherton and Mount Nittany Societies, served as President of the Nittany Lion Club, and was a charter member of the Varsity “S” Club. He received the Alumni Philip Philip Mitchell Award for Humanitarianism in 2005.

77. Adam J. Taliaferro –

Taliaferro earned a B.S. in Labor and Industrial Relations in 2005. During his freshman season on the football team, he suffered a paralyzing spinal cord injury. Taliaferro’s medical recovery has been well-chronicled. He is the founder of the Adam Taliaferro Foundation which provides support to student-athletes who suffer serious brain or spinal injuries. Taliaferro was recently elected to the Gloucester County Board of Freeholders in New Jersey. He currently resides in Swedesboro, N.J.

78. Mark S. Connolly –

Mark Connolly received a Ph.D. in chemistry in 1984 from the Eberly
College of Science. Currently, Heis an Intellectual Property Director, with patent and trade secret responsibility for DuPont Central Research & Development and the Industrial Biosciences business. Connolly is currently President of the Eberly College of Science Alumni Society.

79. Neal W. Biege, Sr. –

Neal Biege earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 1967. He is the retired VP of Marketing for the minerals division of FLSmidth, the world’s leading supplier of systems, equipment and services to the global cement and minerals industries. His wife, as well as two of his children, are Penn State graduates. Biege is a member of both the Lehigh Valley, PA and Naples, FL alumni clubs.

80. Casey A. Coyle –

Coyle graduated in 2006 with a B.A. with distinction in journalism. After his tenure at Penn State, he attented Temple Univeristy’s Beasley School of Law where he graduated in 2009. Coyle currently serves as an advisory board member for Penn State’s Communication & Democracy Program.

81. Andrew Tellep –

Long after Andrew Tellep graduated with Education degree from Penn State in 1974, he began teaching mathematics and computer science at Penn State Schuykill in 1981. Although his tenure at Penn State Schuykill ended in 2008, he is still a member of the Schuylkill For the Future Committee.

82. Gregory M. Kerwin –
Kerwin graduated in 1971 with a degree in Political Science. He received his law degree in 1975.
He is on the Board of Directors of Mid Penn Bancorp, Inc., and has been since 1999.
He is also a senior partner with Kerwin and Kerwin, Attorneys at Law.

83. Gregory H. Wolf –
A State College resident, Wolf graduated from the School of Health and Human Development in 1977. Currently, he works as a business consultant in State College.

84. John P. Rodgers –

Rodgers graduated from Penn State in 1993 with an honors degree in economics. He is also an alumnus of Penn State’s Dickinson School of Law and president of Northeast Revenue Services. John currently serves as a member of the Executive Committee of the Wilkes-Barre Law and Library Association and is a member of the Board of Directors for Franklin Security Bank.

85. James E. Carnicella –

Jim earned his BA in Law Enforcement and Corrections in 1973 and later his MA in Human Resource Management from Indiana  University of Pennsylvania. While coping with university conflicts of the Vietnam era, he had a short stint playing baseball at PSU. Jim is a Certified Court Mediator, Labor Relations Professional, Pension Administrator and a member of several professional HR associations, the Alumni Association Life Members and the Nittany Lion Club.

86. Darlene R. Baker –
