Finance Takes the Mr. and Mrs. THON Title

Eisenhower Auditorium hosted the 4th Annual Mr. and Mrs. THON Pageant last night, which filled the room with cheers, laughs, and impressive dance moves.

Everyone’s favorite DJ Larry Moore hit the stage with some great tunes while people found their seats. The audience acted in true Penn State style by doing the wave followed by a “We Are” chant while “Hey, Baby” was playing.

The show started with representatives from all of the committees dancing on stage to The Wanted’s “Glad You Came.”

Next, the hosts, Family Relations Project Coordinator Mike Toole and Dylan, a THON child, read about the contestants. All of the contestants were brought onto the stage sporting their committee’s colors and struck some prom poses.

The judges were Will Martin (Overall Chairperson), Mike the Mailman (the one and the only), Bridgette Carrier (Homecoming Executive Director), radio host PJ Mullen from B94.5, and Mike Wallz (our favorite hairstylist, football player, and host of “Off the Wallz”).

The top three couples were from the Finance, Entertainment, and Merchandise committees. The contestants were asked some thought-provoking questions like “Which fictional character would you be?” and “What is your ideal date?” After much deliberation and suspense, the judges announced Mr. Hunter Goga and Ms. Alyssa Wasserman from Finance as the winners.

Before questions, there was a talent portion where each committee performed a routine with a THON theme to it.

Rules and Regulations committee was up first. They did a series of dances to a hip-hop medley. My friend sitting next to me, Lindsey Janoff, said about one of the dancers, “He’s so rubberband-y.” That is true; arms were flailing all over the place.

Merchandise showed us how to “merch.” OPP demonstrated their ventriloquist abilities and questioned whether or not there would be THON Uggs this year. Finance stole the show with a glow stick rendition of “Single Ladies.”

Communications had a THONception skit with a reference to the new Snapchat trend. Technology was on a roll with their rollerblades in 60’s hippie-esque attire, trying their best not to fall. Family Relations recreated the Will Ferrell SNL skit about Spartans cheerleading, and the Morale representatives tried to out-do each other in pogo-sticking before they busted out in a fabulous rendition of “Ebony and Ivory.”

Supply Logistics performed a medley of old-school dance moves in bright yoga attire, while Donor and Alumni Relations did an extremely impressive THON rap to Eminem’s “Lose Yourself.” Public Relations did a “Whose Line Is It Anyway” skit making fun of some of THON’s iconic scenarios.

Special Events showed us some sweet dance moves to Beyoncé’s “Love On Top.” Shout out to the girl in the purple leggings — she was really into it. Entertainment covered SNL’s Weekend Update with Stefan, which was spot on. Hospitality made fun of Tosh.0 with their own Hos.0. To conclude the show, Dylan, the THON child host, busted out some Gangam Style.

After all of the committees performed, there was a fashion show. Then the overalls were called to the stage to do last year’s amazing line dance.

What a night! Congratulations to the new Mr. and Mrs. THON, and a big thanks to everyone who participated in providing some quality entertainment FTK. Until next year!
