Why Yes, There Is A THON Scholarship

Are you a senior THON enthusiast? If so, the Penn State Dance Marathon Alumni Interest Group (DMAIG) wants to hear from you.

For the seventeenth consecutive year, DMAIG will be recognizing a special Penn State student who resembles all the generous, caring qualities that many other THON alumni embody. The Rick Funk Scholarship, named after the man who oversaw the Overall Committee for 10 years, is awarded every year to a student whose commitment, loyalty, leadership, ability to motivate other students mirrors those of Funk’s.

Funk’s contributions were instrumental for the early growth of THON. During his time as Overall Commitee advisor, the yearly totals quadrupled from $297,000 to $1.3 million.

Any senior who has participated in THON in any capacity is eligible to win the award. Current members of the Overall Committee, however, are not eligible.

The deadline for applications, which can be found here, is December 30th. Submit completed applications to rfscholarship@dmaig.org. The winner will be awarded a cash prize at the annual Road to THON Dinner.
