Eight Students Charged in Paige Raque Incident

Eight people, all students at Penn State, have been charged with furnishing alcohol to minors in connection to the Paige Raque incident, according to a police press release.

The criminal complaints and other “related offenses” were filed this morning.

On October 13th, Raque, a Penn State cheerleader, suffered serious injuries as a result of a fall from a 5th-story Calder Commons window. Per the release, it was determined that her fall was accidental.

While the Penn State community has rallied around Raque, wishing for her speedy recovery, Raque has made inspiring medical progress since her fall in October.

Last week, we reported two cheerleaders have been removed from the varsity team as a result of the incident. We cannot confirm if the two cheerleaders were among those charged.

The students charged:

Tempest S. Hourston
Megan E. Markovitz
Adaire B. Robinson
Alexandria M. Hipple
Brooke A. Piccione
Alyssa A. Duffy
Julie A. Hannan
Madeline C. Miller

(UPDATE 5:04 p.m.) A Penn State spokesperson has released a statement. “All students will have to face potential sanctions from the University’s Office of Student Conduct,” the spokesperson said. “We are still concerned for Paige’s recovery. This was a tragic and unfortunate accident that could have been avoided”

Four of the women charged were members of the cheerleading team and one was a member of the Lionettes. All five have been removed from their respective teams.
