AOL Sporting News Uses Jerry Sandusky in URL for Article About Hockey
Jerry Sandusky appeared in the website URL of an AOL Sporting News story on Monday in an article that had nothing to do with Jerry Sandusky.
The article, titled “Penn State hockey a a hot property in first D-1 season” includes the following URL:
The article praises Penn State for its first season of Division 1 hockey — particularly increased attendance at events like the Three Rivers Classic and the sold-out game against Vermont at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center.
The only mention of Sandusky in the story comes with this misplaced paragraph:
“The Nittany Lions’ hockey development has been a shot in the arm to the university at large, which continues to work its way back from the Jerry Sandusky scandal. It also helps the visibility of NCAA hockey.”
The URL switcheroo is a seemingly shallow move by The Sporting News to improve the Search Engine Optimization of the website while taking advantage of a common search term.
