The Fracket Bible

How does a girl in 6″ heels, a black miniskirt, and a crop top make it to freezing, snowy Frat Row without getting hypothermia?

Simple, it’s called a fracket.

A fracket is a jacket  you wear to a fraternity party to keep warm. It doesn’t matter if it is lost, stolen or spilled on.

There are rules that go along with frackets. While everyone usually wears a fracket to the frat, not everyone may leave with one. Some people like to upgrade frackets. For example, if Sarah wears a sweatshirt to a frat, and Kimi wears a North Face to a frat, there is a chance that Kimi will not be leaving wearing the fracket she came in. Kimi may land up wearing Sarah’s fracket or no fracket at all because Sarah wanted to be super warm and decided to wear Kimi’s fracket and her sweatshirt on her way home.

However, in the unwritten fracket law, if your fracket is stolen, you are in the right to take someone else’s fracket. While you are at it, you might as well upgrade like your robber did. But be careful when selecting a fracket. Frackets with money, credit cards and keys are generally off limits because they can leave a person out on the street with nowhere to go and no money.

Also, if you see someone wearing your fracket on the street or at a frat, you have the right to confront and reclaim your fracket.

Fracket thieves like Sarah usually steal the fracket earlier in the evening (or early morning), and leave while the party is still going on to go to another frat. Be on the lookout!

To avoid having your fracket stolen here are some tips for keeping your fracket safe.

First of all, wear a fracket you don’t care about. That ugly jacket you bought in middle school? Perfect. If the fracket is lost or stolen, it isn’t a big deal that is gone forever. This will save you from posting a desperate Facebook comment asking your robber to return your fracket. Realize that your Facebook request will most likely not be granted, and the chances of being reunited with your fracket are slim to none.

Never ever leave keys, money or a credit card in your pocket. If your fracket gets stolen, someone else has your life in her hands.

If you come with a group of friends, consider tying all of your frackets together at the sleeves. The more difficult it is to steal the fracket, the less likely your fracket will be stolen.

Don’t put your fracket in an obvious place, like on a couch or in a cubby. Also, avoid putting the jacket in open areas or where all the other frackets are. Putting your fracket in these places is begging for a fracket thief to take yours. Instead, be creative! Hide your fracket behind a trashcan, under the couch or behind an unused bar. Sure it may have some things spilled on it, but at least you have something to walk home in.

Don’t become a victim of your own creativity. If you hide your fracket in a very discrete place, chances as are as the night gets blurrier, you won’t remember where your fracket is. Don’t make finding your fracket mission impossible, just make it too difficult to rob.
