Judge (Arbitrator) Mathis to Visit Penn State Next Week
Daytime Court TV watchers rejoice!
Next Tuesday, April 16, Judge Greg Mathis, star of the popular court show Judge Mathis, will visit campus for a speaking event at 114 Katz Law Building.
Mathis struggled as a youth, getting involved in gangs, dropping out of school, and actually spending some time in jail in Detroit, his hometown. When a judge told him he needed to get his GED or go straight to jail, he found out his mother was dying of cancer. He promised her that he would end up turning his life around, which led him to his television career today.
Before starring on Judge Mathis, he was the youngest judge in Michigan’s history, and went on to serve as the Superior Court Judge for Michigan’s 36th District.
The free event, hosted by the Multicultural Undergraduate Law Association, will also include food. Following Mathis’ presentation, which begins at 6 p.m., there will be a question and answer session.
