Franco Harris to Receive Community Hero Award
Penn State football legend Franco Harris is adding another award to his trophy case, and this time it has nothing to do with football (or PS4RS).
The former Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers fullback will receive the first ever Special Olympics Pennsylvania Community Hero Award at the fourth annual Beaver Stadium 5K on April 21 during Blue-White Weekend.
The new award is given to a member of the Penn State football family who has shown “support and generosity to Special Olympics and/or the community as a whole.”
The annual 5K is a Blue-White tradition held on the Sunday of Blue-White weekend every year. Runners and walkers of all ages participate to benefit the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania. The race concludes at the 50-yard line after the runners sprint through the Beaver Stadium Tunnel.
Harris is a member of the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania’s Executive Advisory Board. He has served as the official race starter at Beaver Stadium 5K for the first three 5k runs.
