Penn State Heightens Security for Blue-White Game

In the wake of the deadly attack at Monday’s Boston Marathon, Penn State is taking some extra precautions to ensure the safety of all who plan to enjoy this weekend’s festivities.

Fans entering attending the annual Blue-White game this Saturday will be prohibited from bringing bags, backpacks, or purses into Beaver Stadium, according to a press release. These items will also be forbidden in other campus buildings during the various events over the course of the weekend.

There will also be a higher police presence than usual. Local police and the FBI will be “stationed strategically” throughout the stadium and surrounding area and will complete a sweep of the stadium before the gates open.

“While not permitting any bags into Beaver Stadium is a significant change from our ordinary routine, it is an important additional layer of security that we are instituting for this event. It brings us in line with most other stadiums across the nation,” Assistant Vice President for Police and Public Safety Steve Shelow said in the release.

Penn State is the latest to heighten security before and during a large sporting event. Several other arenas throughout the country have taken similar precautions over the last 24 hours.

Here’s our guide to Blue-White weekend.
