Statesmen to Perform on the Today Show

One of Penn State’s finest a capella groups has been invited to perform on national television.

The Statesmen, formerly the JoePas, are set to perform on NBC’s Today Show in New York City tomorrow, May 15 at around 9 a.m.

The group’s musical director, Jim Hogan, hatched the idea at a party with his friends to form an all-male a cappella group. Since the creation of the Statesmen, they have grown in popularity at a rapid pace performing at numerous university functions including the Lady Lions Basketball Awards banquet and various Lion Ambassador or Alumni Association events.

Maybe you have seen an unexpected Statesmen performance at the football tailgates, or perhaps you have seen them perform at one of the many a cappella competitions held on campus throughout the year. If you have yet to hear these guys do their thing, Wednesday’s show is a must-see. The dudes in the Penn State cardigans will be performing perhaps their most popular routine: *NSYNC’s “It’s Gonna Be Me.”

“I personally think we’re heading down the road to becoming a real Penn State tradition,” said Statesman Ben Mays. “What started simply as a crazy idea at a party has materialized into an award-winning, tight-knit group of twelve proud Penn State guys singing. We’re all very, very close.”

You can check out some of the group’s performances on Youtube and make sure to tune in tomorrow to see the guys on national TV.
