Four-Star Cornerback Troy Vincent Commits to Penn State

Penn State has picked up its twelfth football recruit for 2014, as Maryland cornerback Troy Vincent, Jr. has verbally committed to play for the Nittany Lions.

It had long been speculated that Penn State was the favorite for the four-star cornerback and son of former All-Pro defensive back Troy Vincent, who spent over a decade in the NFL with the Dolphins, Eagles, Bills and Redskins. The younger Vincent held offers from 20 schools, including Arkansas, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame and his father’s alma mater, Wisconsin.

Vincent is the first recruit in three weeks, as well as the fourth four-star commit for Bill O’Brien in this class, joining wide receivers Chris Godwin and De’Andre Thompkins along with quarterback Michael O’Connor. Vincent is also the third commit that plays in the secondary, along with Marcus Allen and Daquan Worley.

Defensive coordinator John Butler and defensive line coach Larry Johnson recruited Vincent, who is the Nittany Lions’ first four-star defensive back recruit since 2009, when Darrell Givens and Derrick Thomas committed.

With Vincent’s commitment, Penn State is pushing its 2014 scholarship limit of 15. While the commits have been coming at a fast pace for the Nittany Lions, Bill O’Brien and his staff will have to use the last three remaining scholarships carefully.
