Penn State to Open 2014 Season in Ireland

Call your travel agent! Penn State football will open its 2014 campaign in Dublin, Ireland against the University of Central Florida, multiple sources have confirmed to Onward State.

Penn State is planning to release full details about the trip on July 14. The university is currently negotiating with a travel agent to provide affordable transportation packages to fans and students. There is a charity golf outing in the works, as well as a Penn State-themed tour of the Guinness Factory planned.

The 82,000-seat capacity Croke Park will host the two teams according to a report by the Irish Times. Penn State is currently scheduled to open up against Temple on August 30. It is not yet known whether that game will need to be rescheduled or if Penn State will play the week before, but there are no off weeks until October for the Nittany Lions.

Historic Croke Park was first opened in 1913 and is the headquarters of the Gaelic Games. It serves as the fourth largest stadium in Europe and is the largest not used by a professional soccer team.
