Nittanyville Weeklong Campout Announced

One of Penn State’s coolest traditions, the weeklong Nittanyville campout, will be held during homecoming week this year, leading up to the football team’s showdown with Michigan on October 12.

The history of Nittanyville is part of Penn State lore. For those unaware, Nittanyville was formed in 2005 under the name “Paternoville” for students who wanted to get the best seats possible leading up to the #16 Nittany Lion’s game against the #5 Ohio State Buckeyes.

Paternoville was a massive success — it appeared on ESPN’s Cold Pizza, and it has received praised across the country. The organization has undergone a controversial name change (trust us, you don’t need to leave a comment about it), but Nittanyville’s weeklong campout is still one of the many things that makes Penn State great.

The weeklong campout doesn’t always coincide with homecoming — last year’s weeklong campout featured a record 1,185 campers in 140 tents during the week leading up to the football team’s game against Ohio State — but this year, that’s how it worked out. The campout will officially begin on Monday, October 7.

As for the opponent, it makes sense that it would be against #17 Michigan. The Wolverines are arguably the best team that Penn State plays at home this season, it’s a Big Ten game, and it’s currently the latest game on the Nittany Lions’ conference schedule.
