Penn State Chocolate Tour Returns

Penn State is known for its large philanthropic presence, whether it’s alumni returning to play golf to benefit Coaches vs. Cancer or students staying on their feet at THON. This Saturday the charitable nature of Penn State continues at the 3rd annual Penn State Chocolate Tour in Hershey, PA.

The Tour is a day filled with cycling, running, walking, and chocolate, all benefitting cancer research at the Hershey Medical Center. The events this year include: 8 mile cycling, 35 mile cycling, 65 mile cycling, 100 mile cycling, the 6 mile Geltrude Foundation Walk, the 6 mile Foreman Foundation run/race, and a half marathon relay.

The variety in event type and difficulty ensures that Penn State community members of all skill set can come out and join the fun for a cause.

There are also rest stops set up every mile featuring locally made chocolate.

Cyclists will get a chance to see where the chocolate is made — the tour route passes Hershey (home of Hershey’s chocolate factory), Elizabethtown (home of M&M/Mars chocolate factory), and Lititz (home of Wilbur Chocolate Company).

Each year the money raised at the Chocolate Tour go towards funding a new facet of cancer research. This years Tour is focusing on nanoparticle based combination therapy for melanoma.

The first event begins at 8:00 a.m. while the rest are staggered throughout the morning.

So if you’re looking to escape State College’s hectic move in weekend, come down to Hershey for some exercise, fun, and, of course, a little bit of chocolate (for a great cause of course).
