Fencing Pegs Wielsaw Glon As Interim Head Coach

Wielsaw “Wes” Glon has been given the task of replacing the recently terminated Emmanuil Kaidanov as Penn State’s men’s and women’s fencing coach, at least in the interim.

Glon has been an assistant on Penn State’s squad for the last 28 seasons. Before that, Glon was an assistant for two years at William & Mary, and was an assistant with the Austrian National team. Glon is also a highly regarded official in the fencing community.

There is no word on any impending search for a full-time coach, or if Glon will eventually have the interim title taken away and be named head coach himself.

“I am pleased to take on the leadership of such a successful program as we move forward,” Glon said. “We have a rich and successful tradition here at Penn State and I will work very hard to live up to those standards. I believe that this team is very strong and I will strive to give the right motivation and direction so that we can continue to build upon the great success of this program. Our goal is to win our 13th NCAA Championship.”

As for Kaidanov, not much has come out from his camp since his firing, other than that he will hire an attorney, according to “The Fencing Coach.” His son, Greg Kaidanov, responded to a request from Onward State for a statement by saying, “when (my father) is ready, he will make his statement, with class and dignity, as always.”
