State College Police Awarded $40,000 Grant to Combat Alcohol Use

The State College Police Department says its been awarded a two-year, $40,000 grant to help reduce underage and dangerous drinking. The grant came from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.

The money will be used to fund the department’s Source Investigation Project (SIP). in the SIP program police try to identify the people or businesses that are responsible for furnishing alcohol to underage drinkers.

The program is part of an on-going effort to curb underage drinking, alcohol overdoses, public drunkenness, drunk driving, and sexual assaults.

Some of the grant money will be used to educate kids and teens about the dangers associated with alcohol. The State College Police Department is partnering with Penn State’s University Health Services, The Community Help Center and Communities That Care – Care Partnership to reach out to young people.
