LaVar Arrington and Michael Mauti Join National Signing Day Event

James Franklin has added two prestigious guests to next week’s National Signing Day event: former Penn State stars LaVar Arrington and Michael Mauti.

Arrington played linebacker for the Nittany Lions from 1997-1999.  In his illustrious career at Linebacker U, Arrington helped the Lions win the 1998 Outback Bowl and the 1999 Alamo Bowl, and became known for his signature play, the “LaVar Leap.”

He was drafted by the Washington Redskins as the second overall pick of the 2000 NFL draft. Arrington played there for five years, then went on to play for the New York Giants for a season before he retired in 2006. Today, he has his own radio show in the D.C metropolitan area.

Mauti is a recent graduate of Linebacker U, and played for the Nittany Lions from 2008-2012. Beside his leadership on the field, he was a vocal leader of the Penn State football team during the aftermath of the Sandusky scandal. Mauti was drafted in the seventh round of the 2013 draft by the Minnesota Vikings, where he joined fellow Penn State linebacker Gerald Hodges, who was drafted in the fourth round.

The event, which is called “The Signature Event,” will be held on February 5 at 6 p.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center, and will feature Franklin discussing Penn State’s 2014 recruiting class. Admission is free for Penn State students and $5 for everyone else who wishes to attend.
