Three-star defensive back Amani Oruwariye has committed to Penn State, according to a report from ESPN’s Tom VanHaaren, who credited Gaither High School head coach Jason Stokes for the news.

We reported five days ago that it was likely Oruwariye would land at Penn State, mostly because he spent that night retweeting tweets welcoming him to the school by fans. Oruwariye is a three-star cornerback out of Gaither High School in Tampa and will almost certainly play somewhere in the secondary in college. He was ranked by 247sports.com as the 50th-best cornerback recruit in the nation.

He was strongly recruited by Vanderbilt and had verbally committed to the Commodores before de-committing following Franklin’s departure from the program. He was on campus this past weekend for a visit and was spotted taking selfies at Pegula during the hockey game.

As a senior, Oruwariye racked up 47 tackles along — including two for a loss — along with four picks and nine passes defended. He tallied 43 tackles in the secondary with three interceptions and three blocked punts in his junior season and finished his sophomore campaign with five picks and 31 tackles.

While some have questioned James Franklin’s recruiting tactics as he has poached Vanderbilt commits since coming to Penn State, there is no doubt that the new Nittany Lions head coach is getting to work quickly in an attempt to strengthen the 2014 class.

This news comes after a number of recruits committed to Penn State earlier in the week. Four-star athlete Koa Farmer and three-star kicker Jorge Powell both committed to Penn State on Saturday night. Farmer was originally committed to Cal before Franklin & Co. wooed him to Happy Valley. The biggest get of the best week, though, was Saeed Blacknall, a four-star wide receiver ranked as the 21st-best pass-catcher in the nation.
