Get to Know: FUTURES

FUTURES might have officially started in 2005, but 2014 is its break out year.

“Last year we had about 25 active members,” explained the club’s VP, Mike Buchanan. “The year before that, maybe 6. This year we have about 60 active members. We’re just growing exponentially.”

“We haven’t really done anything different, we just have a lot of fun. Members just told their friends and they told their friends. People don’t join unless they are really into it. We’re a special interest organization. Everything we do is for THON.”

Despite the fast growth, Mike says it’s still a tight crew. “We hang out with each other more than we hang out with other people. I would say that’s the most unique thing about us. Every group will raise money, not every group has such a strong connection with its members.”

This year, FUTURES has two dancers on the floor: President, Megan Raynor and the family relations chair, Katie Brase. Apparently, the first seven hours have been a breeze.

“Katie has done THON since freshman year and Megan has been preparing since summer. We have two members constantly down their with them and even have two families that are here this weekend. One family member is on the floor with them this weekend,” explained Buchanan.
