Shortly following the conclusion of the Pep Rally, a celebratory roar rang from one corner of the floor on the BJC. In the middle of it all, a couple stood in embrace, surrounded by excited bystanders. The third engagement during THON 2014 belonged to Rich Lion and Jess O’Lock.

Rich Lion, a dancer for FOTO, and O’Lock, who Lion refers to as “his big supporter,” met each other at a middle school dance in the 8th grade. Lion, of Landsdowne, PA, and O’Lock, of Drexel Hill, PA, have been dating for the last 8 years.

“I couldn’t think of a better place. All our friends are here,” said Lion on his decision to pop the question at THON.

“THON is just a magical place. Giving kids a chance to live a normal life is just a great thing,” he said.

So where did he conceal the ring during this time? Lion pointed to a staple THON object: his fanny pack.

“I had [the ring] in here for the last six hours,” he laughed.
