Penn State Basketball Look For Sweep Of Buckeyes Thursday Night

You could argue that Penn State’s overtime victory in Columbus was one of the biggest in program history.

The Nittany Lions made all the plays in the final stages to pull off the shocker.

Big time plays across the board made the difference on a night that could have so easily gone the Buckeyes’ way.

Weeks following that victory, both Ohio State and Penn State have seen their seasons continue to evolve. The Buckeyes righted the ship having won six of their last seven games following the loss to Penn State. Once a Top 5 team, Ohio State may never be ranked that high again this season, but sitting at No. 22 heading into Thursday night’s meeting in State College, the bottom hasn’t fallen out for an Aaron Craft led Ohio State squad.

For Penn State, the evening will serve as Senior Night for Tim Frazier and practice squad and locker room character Zach Cooper. While Thursday’s game won’t be the final contest, it provides Penn State fans a chance to say goodbye to a pair of important Nittany Lions.

As the Tim Frazier era comes to a close, it will take an effort from the entire roster to pull off the second upset of the Buckeyes this season. Forward Brandon Taylor played a crucial role in the late stages of the first meeting and the likes of Ross Travis and Donovon Jack will need to be equally instrumental on both ends of the court for Penn State to have a shot.

With only a handful of games remaining, Frazier needs just three rebounds to become just the second Big Ten player in league history to reach 1,000 points (1,466), 600 assists (617) and 500 rebounds (497) joining Iowa’s Jeff Horner (2003-06).

Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center. The Nittany Lions will be looking to hit the .500 mark on the season.

If Penn State is able to close out the year even in the win and loss columns a postseason berth in the NIT would not be out of the question. And that would be an important milestone for a program that started 0-6 in conference play.
